Audio-Technica Tour & Microphone Class

Tour the North American Headquarters of Audio‑Technica, featuring listening demonstrations of professional audio, including immersive and stereo recordings. Enjoy Hi‑Fi audio from our turntables and high‑resolution audio player in our listening room. Experience our anechoic chamber and see how microphones are measured and tested. We’ll conclude the visit with a presentation on how microphones work and how they’re applied across the industry.
The Microphone class will be held immediately following at Barlow Community Center in Hudson - in the Theater.
Get hands-on with the art of live sound in this fast-paced, interactive workshop. Explore a range of microphone types—from lavaliers and head worn mics to overhead and floor mics (3:1 rule)—while learning how each shapes the sound on stage. Push the limits of voice lift as you experiment with feedback, EQ, and processing, and gain practical insight you can immediately apply. Wrap it up with a Q&A and leave with your sound knowledge turned all the way up!
Registration for this full combined workshop includes a meal.

Sketchup Workshop

Topics covered: floor plans, sections and scenic elevations plus ow to setup your SketchUp model for CNC, 3D printing and automated material cut lists. Tari Stratton, Managing Director of Membership & Outreach for the Dramatists Guild of America (the member association devoted to protecting the rights of playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists for the past 100 years), will talk about the Guild’s work; the dos and don’ts of licensing work; how to speak with licensing companies; and more! Join her to find out how easy it is to have a successful collaboration with your licensing company which leads to a successful production.

Foundations for Performing: An Acting Intensive

This workshop will begin with a 45-minute session introducing core acting fundamentals, designed to engage and inspire the entire group. Participants will explore essential techniques and concepts that serve as the foundation for
compelling, authentic performance.
The second half of the workshop will shift into a focused, hands-on experience, offering individualized coaching through one-on-one work on prepared monologues, while fellow attendees gain valuable insight through observation.
Monologues should be fully memorized, approximately 1–2 minutes in length and selected
from contemporary plays of the 20th or 21st century.

Consensual Crafting: An Introduction to Staged Intimacy Practices

This engaging and practical 90-minute workshop introduces community theatre artists to the essential principles of staged intimacy. This session offers a supportive environment to explore how we tell stories that involve physical
closeness—safely, respectfully, and effectively.
Participants will be introduced to key vocabulary and industry-standard protocols used in staged intimacy work today. We will discuss some protocols Intimacy Directors employ in pre-production. We will unpack the foundations of consent-based practices, including how to navigate communication around moments of touch. Attendees will also learn how to conduct a boundary check and explore tools used to advocate for themselves and their collaborators.
The workshop will concludewith an open Q&A, offering space for curiosity, reflection, and real-world application. Please note-- While no touch is required, and anyone may remain an observer, there will be an exercise presented where participants may engage in a simple connection (such as a handshake) as an opportunity for practical application.
Intro to Scenic Design

You've Got the Prop List, Now What?

Figuring out the prop list is hard enough. Figuring out how to get it all done is even harder. We’ll chat about the three basic ways to get props: building from scratch, buying, pulling/modifying. Then we’ll create some props of our own from random materials and supplies. Maybe we’ll make a candlestick phone. Maybe we’ll make a plate of fake food. Maybe we’ll make a space ray gun. It all depends on what inspires you and what you pull out of the box.

Roundtable for Playwrights

Come to an informal chat session with Tari Stratton (Managing Director of Membership Outreach) and Michael London (Ohio Regional Representative) from the Dramatists Guild of America - the national association of playwrights, composers and lyricists) - and hear about what the Guild is doing for playwrights everywhere. You’ll learn about the Dramatist’s Bill of Rights, your rights and responsibilities as the author, and the resources available to you as you try to navigate this business-called show. Tari and Mike will also lead in the room in several writing prompts, to get everyone’s creativity flowing!

You Can Really Make it With Foam!

Using Styrofoam isn’t just for making rocks for theatre productions. Foam sheets can help you create large moldings for box sets and even a crocodile head! Upholstery foam can be carved into a puppet face or even a turkey for A Christmas Carol. EVA foam (the newest trend in Cosplay) can help you create props that are lightweight and impressive. Learn how you can make scenic elements, props and even costumes out of foam. Meet the tools and the adhesives and the coatings you need to be successful.
