The Hudson Players are a true community theater. Thus all our shows feature volunteer actors and stage personnel. All roles in our productions are always open to auditioners, with no restrictions. For non-musicals scripts are usually available for perusal at the Hudson Library at least two weeks prior. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script. For musicals, auditioners are asked to have a song prepared and to bring along appropriate sheet musical for the accompanist. Musical auditioners will also be asked to read from the script and in many cases shown a brief movement exercise. Those interested in working backstage, on sets, lights, etc, are encouraged to come to auditions as well and fill out a form letting the producer know their areas of interest. All auditions are held at the Barlow Community Center on Oviatt St in Hudson.
November 9th & 10th @ 7 p.m.
Auditions for Seussical will be Sunday and Monday, November 9 & 10 at the Barlow Community Center on Oviatt St in Hudson. Registration will begin at 7:00pm. All who audition should provide their own sheet music or vocal track; please NO a capella auditions. An accompanist will be provided. Songs should be 16-24 bars in length.
There will be a movement audition as well, so comfortable clothing should be worn. Shoes cannot be sandals, heels, slippers, or clogs. Readings from the script will only be done at callbacks.
Seussical is not a children’s theatre production, it is a family show. Its appeal is to all ages, and its story is about loyalty, friendship, and love. The music styles range from standard Broadway, to blues, swing, rock and roll, and soul.
Seussical features several leading and supporting roles, for males and females of all ages. Ensemble members will be featured as jungle creatures, sea creatures, Whos, military cadets, and circus members.
Jungle creatures are singing/dancing roles; Whos are singing roles (and 4-6 children are included to make up the Who families). Teens are needed for all groups.
The play was written for 28 performers, with the ensemble doubling in all groups; depending on auditions, doubling may or may not be required; however, not everyone in the ensemble will automatically have a dancing role.
The principal roles include…
any age: HORTON THE ELEPHANT, GERTRUDE MCFUZZ, MAYZIE LA BIRD, THE CAT IN THE HAT, MAYOR OF WHOVILLE, MRS. MAYOR, SOUR KANGAROO, JUDGE YERTLE THE TURTLE,
movement along with strong harmony: THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS, THE BIRD GIRLS.
youth: JOJO (small boy or girl, 10-up, who can sing the role)
