This Broadway hit about the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay sizzles on stage. Their Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and was most likely chosen to enable a cover up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial.
The 1992 Movie was Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and A Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay
In addition to providing a great evening’s entertainment, The Hudson Players will also be accepting donations throughout the run for the Akron Multi-Specialty Outpatient Clinic; part of the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. The donations collected from the audience and 50% of the ticket sales from our Veteran’s Day performance will be presented to representatives from the VA on closing night. Discounted ticket prices are also available to Veterans and Active Military throughout the run.
The play is based on events that took place at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in July 1986, though various details were changed for dramatic purposes.
